Workshop 1. iPods + iTunes + World Language = The Perfect Fit!

The iPod revolutionized music, and it has quickly taken over the classroom as a portable learning tool, allowing anywhere, anytime access to speeches, audio books, and lectures. Photos and podcasts expand teaching possibilities, and video is evolving the experience even further. Often thought of as just an MP3 Player, the iPod has the ability to inspire and empower learning communities: photos and podcasts expanded teaching possibilities, and, now, video is evolving the experience even further. World Language classes can now employ iPod technology not only to replaying class lectures, but to reinforce literacy skills; improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills; and encourage self-assessment by students and teachers. The opportunities are endless now for teachers to seamlessly create, organize, distribute, and access all kinds of learning materials. The power to learn is in your hands: witness the evolution of the revolution.

Christine Dowd has a BA from St. Bonaventure University, and an MLS (Library Science) from SUNY Geneseo. She has17 years experience in education at the Spencerport Central School District and Wheatland Chili Central School District as a Social Studies Teacher, School Library Media Specialist, Teacher Center Director, and Instructional Technology
Director. With adjunct teaching experience at the University of Rochester’s Graduate School of Education and at Nazareth College, Christine is a speaker and consultant to K-12 school districts and higher education institutions on educational use of technology, and it's impact on teaching and learning, and works with the Education Leadership team at Apple, Inc.
