Merriam Webster’s Dictionary defines the European Union as an economic, scientific, and political organization governing over several countries. Although the United States isn’t included under the authority of the European Union, it still affected by the EU’s world impact. The European Union rules over 495 million citizens over a span of 27 democratic countries on the continent of Europe. (http://europa.eu/abc/panorama/index_en.htm)

By changing the way things are done environmentally throughout Europe, everyone throughout the world can be impacted. Even if just the European Union develops new ways to preserve the environment and betters the way we live by making environmental policies, anyone can adopt these ideas for change, leading to a better world altogether. For example, The EU funds the Community Plant Variety Office in France, which oversees the maintenance of biodiversity throughout the land. The EU is doing this and more all to ensure that places their citizens live in can be safe and healthy places for future generations, but this is also good for everyone in the world. Among the countless agencies provided by the EU, the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO) contributes to the conservation of our planet through biodiversity. CPVO secures the rights for all varieties of plants, protecting species from extinction. By preserving various plants and making sure that they will be around for future generations, France and the European Union is protecting the environment by keeping it stable and free from more human caused extinctions. Without such a program, plants could be going extinct, further destroying a natural biodiversity. However, through the protection of plant species, France and countries throughout the European Union are helping to keep our world more in balance and alive. The world is affected by pollution and other human caused issues every day, but when the European Union puts into effect such a program as the CPVO, my world is being protected from further harm. Not only do the laws and regulations on waste and pollution affect the people who live in those countries, they affect the world where everyone lives ultimately for the better. If all the countries from the EU are doing their part to reduce waste and reuse products, the environment is being less damaged and harmed due to human actions. France is also constantly contributing to the conservation of our world by overseeing plant species variety and protection through the agency funded by the EU called the Community Plant Variety Office. By setting such a good example for other places in the world, France and the European Union can impact and influence other countries to make good decisions environmentally, making the world a cleaner, less polluted place to live in.

With the threat of global warming, species going extinct, and extreme pollution throughout the Earth, more places should become like the European Union and begin to put into effect regulations. The European Union doesn’t solely affect the places it governs over; it affects me and my country for the better because of the work it does environmentally.
