The European
Union represents to me a future filled with peace, prosperity
and unity throughout Europe;and as a result, in the world.
The political and economic fortunes of Europe often dictate
the conditions of the rest of the world and many critical
historical advancements & events have occurred in
Europe. Among such events are the two largest and deadliest
wars in humanity history, World War I and World War II,
the latter killing over million people as well as destroying
the infrastructure and vitality of Europe and parts of
Asia and Africa. The European Union is in my eyes the
best defense to conflict in Europe which is often the
root of other wars worldwide and often a result of lack
of communication and diplomatic relations The European
Union enlists a collection of constantly interacting and
politically unified nations, a union that would prevent
imperialistic or genocidal actions. This is important
because of the Holocaust in which I lost many ancestors,
and was a result of a divided and weak Europe If such
a union were in place at the time the racist and anti-Semitic
dictatorship in Nazi Germany might have been stopped before
the War by a unified Europe preventing the Holocaust and
the deadliest six years in human history.
The European Union is important globally because the world
economy is dependent on Europe’s economy which benefits
greatly from the European Union. Due to positive benefits
such as open borders increased diplomatic relations and
similar laws European Union members engage in profitable
trade and commerce relations, allowing companies to cater
to much larger client bases throughout the Union, providing
transportation of people goods and services throughout
the European Union, not just at home. Since America is
Europe’s main trading partner and Americans often
work with companies and clients in the European Union
Americans as well benefit Ultimately the open environment
enabled by Union laws has brought profits to all the European
Union members as well as the Union’s friends across
the globe. In humanitarian situations the leading force
of aid and intervention globally is Europe and most often
in the last several decades the aid has come from joint
operations under the European Union not from individual
contributions The European Union has become the leading
humanitarian player sending food and money to starving
nations in Asia and Africa and providing peace-keeping
troops in conflict zones when needed The pooling of resources
from European Union members has lightened individual burdens
and increased the amount of attention ailing nations receive
In addition the Union has become the leading diplomatic
power over the U.S negotiating and organizing peace talks
consistently Personally this is deeply meaningful to me
because the Union has played a major role in negotiating
for peace in my country of birth Israel/Palestine, itself
torn by conflict This role symbolizes the progress Europe
has made, achieving a diplomatic congruence so perfect
that it can now help to ensure peace and stability across
the globe.
