The
European Union has changed Europe and has made it easy
for people to be able to travel, shop, and get along with
each other. The whole idea of forming a European Union
actually came from the wars that kept breaking out within
Europe, such as World War 1, and World War 2. The European
Union was made official on November 1st, 1993. It now
has 27 countries in it. Their goal is to promote cooperation
among the member countries, and deal with economics and
trade, social issues, foreign policies, security and defense,
and other legal matters.
The
European Union, to me, symbolizes freedom, and peace.
What does the European Union mean to me? It means freedom.
The fact that I am able to go to a European country (ex:
France), and I am allowed to travel throughout the rest
of Europe without having to go through customs constantly
is probably one of the best aspects of it. Now that the
European Union has decided to make one currency and passport,
travelers can go from country to country and enjoy themselves.
They don’t have to change their American dollar
to a French Frank, to an Italian Lira, to a Portuguese
Escudo. The Euro, made by the European Union, has unified
Europe and made it easier for travel. It also means that
it is easier to go… shopping! You could be traveling
to Paris, Athens, and Milan.. and you can use the Euro
in all 3 places. This is especially helpful for people
who are going backpacking through Europe because they
don’t have to change their currency when they go
from country to country. Traveling and shopping has become
easier because of the European Union, and people have
more freedom to move around. The European Union means
peace, to me, as well. It helps the 27 members to get
along. If European countries were getting into disagreements,
there could be a world war 3, and then the United States
might feel the need to get involved. War is a ridiculous
thing, and because of the European Union, there is a way
to keep the peace. When smart countries team up to be
allies, they can achieve great things. This is the European
Union. They make sure that these 27 countries can stay
together and be allies because there is power in numbers.
The
European Union has united Europe in a good way that helps
it’s citizens. The European Union means that Europe
is safer, better, and wealthier. They are safer because
they are allies. They are better because they are unified
with the same currency. They are wealthier because more
people will travel to more than on European country on
their vacation since they don’t have to constantly
go through customs and have to change their money. It
is a strong government force that has changed Europe for
the better. The European Union represents freedom, and
peace and that means a lot to me.
