What
is the European Union?
If
you were to learn about it in a history class, you’d
get a heap of dates and places. In that sense it is a
political and economic union of twenty seven states created
under the Treaty of Maastricht in 1993. However, if one
was to really learn it, dare to go beyond textbook answers
into the hearts of the people involved, they’d learn
it in a whole different light. The European Union is a
symbol of hope. The EU consists of many nations from different
geographical locations throughout Europe. It’s amazing
to see countries that once hated each other, willing to
join forces and cooperate with one another. France and
Britain have disliked each other since ancient times.
The “Allied” Nations have gone into two global-wide
wars with Germany, and have united despite that. The fact
that these nations have put their past behind them to
focus on a better future is uplifting. Many philosophers
feel humans were born selfish and power hungry. This Union
proves just the opposite. It proves that when people understand
that they have a common goal, they can swallow their pride
and do what it takes to benefit mankind. The European
Union consists of people from different worlds. Some are
light skinned with an Aryan look; some are tan and dark
haired. Some celebrate Christmas, others Ramadan. Some
celebrate Le Tomatina while others celebrate Martisorul.
Yet these people with totally different traditions and
ideas accepted a unified government. This Union of nations
proves that it is possible for people to all get along,
despite differences. If a whole continent could get most
of it’s nations to unite as one body, it’s
more believable that the rest of the world can lay down
their weapons and unite as one world. That idea is so
uncontrollably exciting that it brings a smile to my face
that won’t ever fade. Imagine one a world united,
never warring over differences again. In my eyes, the
European Union is, a ray of sunshine in this stormy time.
With the economy crisis and wars and global warming this
alliance of nations stands out as an example of international
cooperation, an example that maybe the world will follow.
The EU is not just a combination of several nations, it’s
a trusting unity of humankind, alluding that humans are
good and wise after all. Long live the European Union.
Long live the unity of humanity. ~~~~~~~~~
We
were once divided, lived our separate ways
But this stirred up conflicts for many days
‘Till we had an idea so smart
We’d become one nation, one heart
Now we are a union of many cultures and beliefs
This union has offered a great relief
Who knew such different people could unite for a common
goal
And see everyone as an equal human soul
The Union is inspiring, it gives people hope
Of the nature of humans, it gives us a positive scope
Long live the unity
Long live the community
